Job Description: Welding Instructor

The Organization

Founded in 2017, the New Orleans Career Center (NOCC) is an independent nonprofit focused on career preparation and technical training for five industry sectors: Healthcare, Building Trades, Engineering and Manufacturing, Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, and Digital Production.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Welding Instructor to join our team and lead our welding training programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and expertise in various welding techniques, safety procedures, and industry standards.

As a welding instructor, you will be responsible for preparing trainees for successful welding careers. You will ensure they develop proficiency in welding processes and techniques using both practical skills and theoretical knowledge. Responsibilities

  • Ensure trainees earn industry-based certifications aligned to the welding training program and are employment-ready.
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive welding training program (NCCER Level 1 and 2 or AWS) for trainees at various skill levels.
  • Develop curriculum materials, daily lesson plans, and instructional resources.
  • Instruct trainees on welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, ARC, and oxy-fuel welding.
  • Demonstrate proper welding procedures, safety protocols, and equipment operation.
  • Deliver effective hands-on training and guidance to trainees in the welding workshop.
  • Assess student progress routinely through practical assignments, tests, and evaluations. Coordinate certification testing.
  • Offer constructive feedback and support to help trainees improve their welding skills.
  • Stay updated on advancements in welding technology, techniques, and industry standards. Then, integrate advancements into instruction.
  • Collaborate effectively with other instructors, program coordinators, case managers, and other staff to enhance the effectiveness of training programs and trainee outcomes.
  • Serve as a mentor for trainees to support successful employment after certification.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding special events, marketing, and additional trainee opportunities.
  • Outfit and maintain a safe and organized welding workshop environment, ensuring compliance with NOCC and industry safety standards and regulations.
  • Recommend, purchase, maintain, and catalog supplies and equipment.

Required Skills and Preferred Experience

  • Proven experience as a welding instructor or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of welding processes, techniques, and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of welding safety procedures and regulations.
  • Excellent teaching and communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate welding techniques effectively.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching and mentorship.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to plan and deliver structured instructional activities.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is preferred and willingness to become a certified welding instructor, and proctor required
  • Certification in NCCER Welding or AWS levels 1 and 2 is required
  • Willingness to attend NCCER development and become a certified NCCER Crafts Instructor and/or Proctor as part of professional development
  • Prior experience working in a welding-related industry is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. NOCC also offers a competitive benefits package that includes 80% employer-paid health insurance, long- and short-term disability insurance, 401K, 10 days of paid time off over NOCC org-wide breaks, and professional development resources and opportunities.

Salary Range $60,000 - $80,000

The process will include an initial screening interview, performance task, in-person interview/visit, and follow-up conversations with NOCC staff, as necessary.

Physical Requirements of Role

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
